New Product — Gesac’s PR Geometry for New Generation Steel Turning Series
1 Design Highlights
-
Wide Flat Cutting Edge
Strengthens edge toughness and prevents unexpected insert chipping under unstable cutting conditions. -
Expanded Chip Evacuation Groove
Boosts chip accommodation capacity to eliminate chip jam at large depths of cut and feed rates, lowering rake face abrasion. -
Integrated Large Chip Breaker Step
Consistently delivers reliable chip breaking performance across all rough turning scenarios.

2 Application Range
The PR chipbreaker is optimized for rough turning, especially suited for heavy roughing under unstable cutting conditions. The applicable machining window is shown below:

3 Application Cases
Benchmark tests were carried out with PR chipbreaker inserts paired with grade GPT6230 for the continuous outer diameter and interrupted end face machining of steering knuckles.

In heavy interrupted rough turning of steering knuckles, the PR chipbreaker maintains stable chip breaking throughout the process. When paired with the GPT6230 substrate grade, it outperforms competing inserts in overall cutting stability and tool life, perfectly meeting the dual requirements of high productivity and consistent machining reliability for this demanding operation.
Gesac’s new steel turning line includes multiple application-specific chipbreakers tailored to diverse cutting conditions. In our next article, we will dive deeper into the design highlights and applicable scenarios of other chipbreakers in this series — stay tuned!
