Mitutoyo | Online Measurement of e-Axle Electric Drive Gears
Mitutoyo | Online Measurement for E-Axle Electric Drive Gears
E-Axle electric drive integrates the motor, inverter, and reducer into a single unit. Once installed in the vehicle and powered on, the drive shaft connected to the tires can generate rotational torque to drive the car. Therefore, the gears in the motor must withstand high torque loads, making quality control of the tooth root area—which is closely related to gear strength—critical to prevent failures such as breakage.

Gear measurement often requires multi-dimensional evaluation, including dimensional measurement and form assessment. Traditional inspection processes involve multiple instruments such as gear testers, profile measuring machines, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
Advantage 1: Efficiency Increased by Up to 3 Times
Now, with the MiSTAR 555 Gear System, form analysis and dimensional evaluation of the tooth root area—critical to gear strength—can be performed simultaneously without process switching, simply by changing the probe. This can increase measurement efficiency by up to 3 times (compared to our previous products).

Advantage 2: 4-Axis Design Value Tracing for Efficient Scanning
Using the innovative "4-Axis Design Value Tracing" technology, high-speed scanning is achieved while the rotary table synchronously rotates, without interference between the workpiece and the probe.

Advantage 3: Graphical GUI for Intuitive Gear Analysis
The new "GEARPAK Express" features a graphical GUI, making the software interface more intuitive. Additionally, it supports probe system exchange, enabling seamless transitions from gear evaluation to general measurement and form assessment.

Advantage 4: On-Site Measurement with Superior Environmental Resistance
Mitutoyo's MiSTAR 555 in the gear measurement system is a CNC coordinate measuring machine designed for active use in workshop environments. It incorporates an environmentally resistant absolute scale and linear guides, ensuring reliable operation even in environments with oil mist. With an accuracy guarantee temperature range of 10–40°C, it is not picky about installation conditions.

In addition, the MiSTAR 555 adopts a three-sided open structure, which makes it more convenient to load and unload workpieces. It can be combined with robots and conveyor devices to achieve unmanned operation. It also supports combination with processing equipment such as machine tools to achieve integrated production and measurement.
