High Hardness, High Speed, High Precision – CBN-FB2 Perfectly Delivers Your “Three Highs” Machining Requirements — OSG
High Hardness, High Speed, High Precision
CBN-FB2 Excellently Meets Your "Three-High" Machining Demands
In recent years, mold materials have been continuously developing towards higher hardness, and the requirements for machining accuracy have become increasingly stringent. In response to this industry demand, OSG has specially developed the 2-flute ball nose end mill CBN-FB2, suitable for hardened steels up to ~70 HRC. It uses a high-quality CBN sintered body with both wear resistance and heat resistance as the tool substrate, which can suppress tip wear even in high-speed machining of high-hardness steels. This core characteristic minimizes machining accuracy deviations caused by mid-process tool changes and reduces equipment downtime due to frequent tool changes, thereby helping to compress the overall production cycle of mold processing and providing reliable support for efficient and precise mold manufacturing.
Tool Characteristics
The biggest challenge in high-precision mold machining is tool wear. During the machining process, frequent tool changes due to wear often lead to fluctuations in machining quality and significantly reduce machining efficiency.
To address this challenge, the design of CBN-FB2 focuses on both the cutting edge geometry and shank configuration to suppress tip wear and achieve high-speed, high-precision finishing.
Suppresses Wear Deformation
Unique precision back-off design effectively suppresses shape deformation caused by wear.

Ensures Contour Accuracy
Excellent ball nose R accuracy (±0.003) ensures machining contour accuracy.
Balances Sharpness and Rigidity
Adopts a low helix design, maintaining cutting sharpness while enhancing tool rigidity.

Ensures Clamping Stability
Ultra-high precision shank design with shank accuracy of -0.001 to -0.003 provides stable machining accuracy; its optimized tool length reduces bending deformation, allowing maximum clamping depth in high-precision tool holders without the need to cut the tool shank.

Machining Case Study
Even after prolonged machining, high-quality machined surfaces can be obtained. High-hardness steel can be finished at high speed and high precision without tool change.
